Charco Azul, in the El Golfo area, offers a close-up view of how lava has carved out pools of water within the rocky coastline. Wooden walkways and sun decks line the pools without turning them into a conventional swimming facility. The contrast between the dark stone, the azure water, and the foaming surf outside makes it worth a visit just to look. Enter the water only when conditions are suitable; the natural shelter does not fully negate the impact of rough seas.
