At Martiánez, two very different ways of enjoying the water coexist: the black sand and pebble beach open to the Atlantic, and—right next to it—the Lago Martiánez pool complex designed by César Manrique. The shoreline is also popular with surfers and connects directly to the Puerto de la Cruz promenade. Do not mistake the presence of the pools for a sheltered sea; waves and currents remain a feature of the beach itself.
