Sheltered beaches in Tenerife: choosing a coast on windy days

Costa Adeje, Las Vistas or Las Teresitas? Compare direction, gusts and waves: wind shelter and calm seas are different things.

Costa Adeje, Las Vistas or Las Teresitas? Compare direction, gusts and waves: wind shelter and calm seas are different things.

Trade winds: compare the southwest without assuming shelter

With northeasterly wind, compare southwestern beaches with more exposed alternatives. Start with El Duque, La Pinta and Las Vistas, checking each beach forecast. Terrain may provide shelter or generate gusts: the leeward-coast rule is a first filter, not a local forecast.

Las Teresitas: distinguish a breakwater from wind shelter

Las Teresitas has a breakwater, but protection from waves does not automatically block wind on the sand. Check gusts and direction as well as waves. The same distinction applies to other beaches with coastal structures: comfort on land and conditions in the water need separate assessment.

When the wind changes direction

Do not repeat yesterday's choice if the wind turns. Compare at least two beaches on different coasts for your visit and return. Offshore wind may leave deceptively tidy water near the shore while increasing risk for inflatables and boards; it is not a swimming advantage.
