Best beaches in the Canary Islands: choosing an island and coastline
From Tenerife's bays to Gran Canaria's dunes, Sotavento and Papagayo: choose Canary Islands beaches for the trip you want.
From Tenerife's bays to Gran Canaria's dunes, Sotavento and Papagayo: choose Canary Islands beaches for the trip you want.
Tenerife and Gran Canaria: choose your base too
For an itinerary, compare your accommodation area with the beaches you want to visit. In Tenerife, consider Las Teresitas alongside the Costa Adeje area; in Gran Canaria, compare Las Palmas with Maspalomas scenery. These offer different experiences; do not choose an island merely by counting its beaches in a ranking.
Fuerteventura and Lanzarote: separate scenery from activity
In Fuerteventura, distinguish Sotavento's sectors, including La Barca and Risco del Paso. In Lanzarote, Papagayo and Famara offer different settings to compare with your plans. Sightseeing, walking and a sporting session do not need the same conditions. Use the individual island guides to build your shortlist.
From a holiday shortlist to today's choice
This guide does not declare one island the overall winner. Once your destination is chosen, compare beaches you can reach during your visit. For relaxing, balance access, facilities, wind and sea; for sport, use the discipline page and verify the permitted sector. A photogenic beach may not be the best choice that day.
