About the beach

El Pozo is the dark-sand beach on the coast south of Playa Quemada, distinct from the light-sand cove of the same name in the Papagayo group. Gravel and sand gather here in a largely undeveloped setting on the eastern slopes of Los Ajaches. Accessing it on foot requires care, making the visit part of a coastal hike rather than a quick drive-by stop. Bring water and suitable footwear, and save enough time and energy for the return journey.
